YAY!!!! Thursday, July 16th. AM

Hello Everyone!
Jan was sent to the ICU (as expected) at approximately 12:40am (early this morning). Joe saw her being wheeled by...and said that "She looked like she was passed out"...hee hee. Comfortable, in other words. :)
More good news...looks as if the disease was fairly contained. Does not sound as if it was into the lymph system. Still waiting to talk with the other surgeon who completed his part earlier in the day yesterday.

At 8:30am, I spoke with the "nurse who is taking care of" Jan. He was extremely encouraging. He stated that Jan "says that she is doing well". She has been having some discomfort in her abdomen, but they are getting a handle on this problem. He said that overall she is "doing pretty well...she is drowsy, somewhat lethargic. She says her mouth is dry". Of course, I had my suggestions for her nurse to help with this issue, and it was kind of him to allow me to "suggest". ha ha. I suppose I am not the first to try to tell an ICU nurse how to do their job...ha ha ha. The nurse said that because of the lethargy she may or may not remember speaking to visitors right now being so groggy. That's okay...it will be great to see her when they "approve" of my visit. :) Her nurse also said that she is on IV sugar (for nutrition-fluids, etc) and most likely will eat a little something either late late tonight (as tolerated) or tomorrow. Jan would probably like some ice cream... :)

Jan is in an ICU room with another patient. There is a limit to visiting in the ICU-particularly the number of people in the room at one time and the length of the visit...and the nurses have to "allow" you into the unit. She will most likely "spend another day" in the ICU.

I am headed back over the UW hospital shortly and will try to post more soon.
Sorry that I had not posted earlier...I had some computer internet connection difficulties (with the internet connection at the hotel)...I am hoping this clears up with the hospital internet connection. I am on one of the hotel computers right now...because I just felt it was imperative that I blog to you all!
Thank you thank you thank you so much for your kind words, thoughts, and prayers.
Will post more as soon as possible.
Blessings to you all.
~Nancy (a happy sister).

  1. Precious Nancy - all of these blog posts were hiding in my unread mail but what joy to read them all at once. I am overwhelmed to tears with what an incredible sister you are to Jan and all the really good news about how she is doing and how the surgery went. Will be praying fully that the lymph node biopsies come back clean and that her recovery be completely unremarkable.

Thank you for these detailed informative updates letting us know how to keep on praying. It is so beautiful to see how prayer works.

blessings and much love from mary anne
