Friday, July 24, 2009 Good News!

Hello All~
Jan is "being sprung" from the hospital today! Oh happy day! :)
Joe is traveling down to pick her up...they think they'll be heading home around noon or so...perhaps a little later...

Her shoulder pain just "comes and goes" now. So, it is better, but still giving her some difficulty.

She was very pleased on the phone this morning to report that she was able to have a full blown shower. She said this helped her feel so good.

Thank you all....keep up those prayers! :)

Thursday, July 23rd....Special request from Jan...

I just got off the phone with Jan....and she asked for: "a special prayer request" for relief of right shoulder/arm pain---it goes all the way down to finger tips"... please. It is making it difficult to get proper rest.
Jan is spending another day in the hospital. Still has some fluid in her lungs, but this has improved.
"Unless some other issue comes up....I will be going home tomorrow...noon-ish". :)

"Thank You".

Wednesday, July 22, Update

Greetings Everyone~
Jan is staying at the hospital-at least another day. They are still watching her oxygen levels. Jan was starting to get hit with vertigo which adds to an overall nauseous feeling---this has made it difficult to get up and around.

Jan said to her doctor this morning: "I know why I am still here it is because my husband has a bad cold, and I will go home when he is better". She is trying to make sense of staying there and stay positive.

Jan really enjoyed another visit from Bob and Karen last night (and I sooooo appreciate their visits as well). :) Another thing that was soooooo good for Jan and that she talked about quite a bit was her bed bath and hair wash yesterday! Jan said "it was the best shower I ever had!" :) Oh what a nice hair wash and a visit from friends... can do for someone! :)

So, praises for good pathology report, being able to exercise, and support from friends and family!
Prayers for oxygen restoration to healthy levels, Joe's cold to be gone, Jan's vertigo and thrush to disappear. Jan's thrush in her mouth makes eating a chore...and we would definitely like to have her enjoying her meals! :)

Thank you all for positive thoughts, love, and prayers.

Tuesday, July 21st- Update

Greetings All~
Just got off of the phone with Jan... She is planning to call me back again because a nurse came in and interrupted our conversation with some other tasks...
But, what I did gather is that going home has been postponed, at least for today.
Jan still does not quite get enough oxygen on her own yet, so they are reluctant to let her go home... You know, it is a good thing that she just do what is best and avoid a trip back perhaps.
Jan is "going around the track" 3 times a day now - up and walking. :) This will help wake her lungs up more quickly.
All for now,
Nancy

Monday, July 20th, 2009 More Good News!

Greetings Everyone!

I just spoke with Jan on the phone... :)

Jan received her pathology report from her surgeon this morning. The lymph nodes were negative and there was no cancer on the left side!!! I cried with relief...and then laughed and cried with relief.
This is very very very good news. Jan said: "This means that I will not be having radiation for one thing...I will still be having Chemo treatment, but...this is huge (good news)." Whew... many sighs of relief! :)

Jan said that it is still the plan to go home tomorrow. :)

We talked for a bit...and Jan brought up what perhaps a different story could be happening right now, if we hadn't gone in for our genetic testing...and had our previous prophylactic surgeries....where they were able to find (and remove) the cancer in situ in her fallopian tube...
We discussed how important it is to be proactive against this disease... and she said "I thought of something that people can do.... You know how when they ask what they can do for me? Well, knowing that they are getting their checks...is what would really be great for me."
I love my sister, my friend.

Then, her other surgeon walked into the room...So, we got off the phone, but plan to talk more later. I told her I was already starting a new blog for today.

Thank You and you. Amen.

Sunday, July 19th. Update.

Hello All~
Jan continues to be on the mend. :)

She had some small amount of fluid in her lungs that was causing her to be a bit short of breath. She continues to be on a low level of oxygen to help with this. At approximately noon (pacific time) today, she got results of a second x-ray (of her lungs) and the results showed less fluid than yesterday! Yay! :)

Jan is also getting up and walking around (which will also help with lessening the fluid). More importantly, getting around well means she'll be heading home soon. :) Right now, it appears that she will be ready to go home on Tuesday. However, the doctor said today that if she just felt wonderful tomorrow (he said "it could happen")...then she could be ready tomorrow... :) I tend to be cautiously optimistic and (given that I generally let my feelings be known...) let Jan know that I thought that extra day might be a good thing...just to have some extra help for a little longer. Hee, hee. ;)

Jan was moved to a "regular" room yesterday (and out of the ICU) which is nice...as for one thing it is much much quieter...except for one patient next door who can't hear well and turns up his tv really loud... He also was yelling a bit yesterday...then was scolded for a foul word. Oops. lol. I encouraged Jan to let the nurse know when it is too loud because the patient had probably fallen asleep anyway. ha ha ha.

Let's see....what else?...umm... Joe, Janae, our Dad, Alfonso, Brendan, Bob, and Karen all visited yesterday... which Jan loved. I told her I didn't want to stay too long since all of us might wear her out (and this is supposed to be rest time) and she said "oh no...I enjoy it" (having visitors)... then she promptly asked the nurse if they would allow me to stay AFTER visiting hours to help "organize" her things. hee hee hee. :) That's my sis. xoxoxo

We are considering a shower today... Jan really wants to be able to shower...doesn't showering feel good? :) We will see how this goes...

She is looking forward to another visit from Joe and Janae and is expecting that they will probably be able to come down after church today. I also hope to be able to see those two... :) as I missed their visit yesterday.

I have now checked out of my hotel and after spending some of the day with Jan...I will be heading back to Bellingham... :( This is a hard one...and I am torn... I would like to stay longer, but I do miss other family members in Bellingham (e.g. husband).

Thank you for all of your well wishes, positive thoughts, and prayers.

Will post more soon....and if anyone who visits Jan (or has some thoughts to share) would like to start a new thread or post how their visit was...please feel free!!! That might be nice for others as well as for Jan. I am guessing she will be able to be "online" once she returns home... :)

Much love to you all~

Saturday! July 18th. 2009

Greetings all~
Last night Jan was looking really good. A low grade fever "is very common" after such a long surgery....and by the time I left it was "normal".
She was drinking ensure and had attempted some soup, but she made a "yucky" face... I am going to try to find some really good soup on my way over today.

I read some blog posts to her while there (my nephew helped me to get the page to show up without being "online"-smart cookie). She enjoyed hearing them. Her voice is back to about 95% and of course really appreciates not having that hot blanket on. :)

It was getting so late last night but they were still going to try to get her "up" and had a chair out. I was pretty tired...and Jan said... go get some sleep- so I hit the road.

In case you didn't catch Joe (and Janae's) post from today, Joe said:
"Janae and I talked with Jan this morning and she was sitting up in a chair. Praise God!!" Isn't that awesome! Thought I would re-copy that one! Yay! Another huge milestone!!! The goal now is to "get up, walking around three times a day". I know Jan can do it. :)

Our nephew's birthday was yesterday, and we have been interested in having a birthday meal in his honor (tradition). Since I have decided to stay another night in Seattle, he and his Dad are coming down here, but the bonus is that our nephew would like to go see Jan as well...(which we both thought was very sweet). As my nephew considered this, he said "Well, I'd like Grandpa to come to". The upshot is that Brendan (nephew), Alfonso (brother-in-law), and our Dad are coming to Seattle today. I am still in shock that our 82 year old Dad has decided to take this trip...He loves Jan so much and must really want to see her. :) Prayers for safe and comfortable travels to and fro.

Given that Joe is planning to come on down as well, this sounds like a very big visiting day today! I hope that (and will watch for that) we do not all wear her out...well...too much. hee hee.

Thank you, all, again for all of your support.
~Nancy
